Repair or Replace?
Depending on the condition, you can inspect your headset and determine whether it’s more effective to repair or replace the part. In most cases you are able repair the headset by replacing the microphone or speaker.
Damages like heavily corroded or waterlogged units, damage to connectors and/or cables are usually damages that are not repairable and need to be replaced.
How to check your headset
You’ll need two working intercoms for this process and pair them together:
- Intercom #1: To listen and test sound output. Use working headset.
- Intercom #2: Connected to the headset with the microphone or speaker to be replaced.
Check speaker connections:
- Carefully detach the old, broken microphone from the headset.
- You’ll see two small connection pins where the microphone was installed.
- Use a paper clip to connect the two pins together briefly
- If you hear a scratching or static sound through intercom #1, it means the headset is still functioning correctly.
- If there’s no sound at all, the headset may be beyond repair.
📌 If you don’t feel comfortable testing and/or replacing the microphones and speakers. You can always request a repair.
